HOW VOTING WORKS FOR THE 2017 MTV EMA

This year's MTV EMA gives the power to you, the viewers, to pick the winners of most of our awards.

There are sixteen (16) main categories open for voting: Best Local Act, Best Song, Best Artist, Best New, Best Pop, Best Live, Best Electronic, Best Rock, Best Hip Hop, Best Alternative, Best PUSH, Best World Stage, Best Video, Best Look, Biggest Fans, and Worldwide Act.

The award for Best Video and Worldwide Act is chosen by the MTV Music Editorial Team and is not eligible for voting.

Voting for the remaining categories is as follows and, except as outlined below, winners will be announced during the MTV EMA on 12 November 2017. The "Website" is mtvema.com and the "App" is the MTV EMA mobile app which is available free at the iTunes and Google Play stores.

*Except voting for:; (i) Best Israeli Act (closes on 20 October @10:00AM CET); (ii) Best Swiss Act (closes on 4 November 2017 @6:00pm CET); (iii) Best Dutch Act (closes on 6 November 2017 @8:30pm CET); (iv) Best Polish Act (closes on 8 November 2017 @4:00pm CET); (v) Best Belgian Act (closes on 8 November 2017 @8:30pm CET); and (vi) Best Australia and Best New Zealand Act (closes on 9 November @1:59PM CET).

The Best Local Act category gives viewers and fans to vote for the Best Local Act in each of 32 separate countries/regions, as outlined on the Website/App, and such categories may be referred to locally by names such as "Best Dutch Act", "Best Belgian Act", etc. Voting for the Best Local Act category has two phases:
 
Phase 1: Pre-nomination. On 26 September 2017, each region will announce 4-6 confirmed nominees for Best Local Act. In select regions, local fans will choose one additional final nominee spot through Twitter hashtag voting. In these regions, the final nominee will be announced online on 4 October 2017.

Phase 2: Final Voting. In this phase you will be able to vote for the Best Local Act nominees in any participating country/local region. Local winners from each country/local region will be announced online on 12 November 2017, except for the following: (i) Best Swiss Act; (ii) Best Belgian Act; (iii) Best Dutch Act; (iv) Best Polish Act; (v) Best Israeli Act; and (vi) Best German Act.

Note that winners for Best Africa Act will be determined based on a weighted voting system where 40% will be decided by public voting and 60% will be decided by the MTV Music Editorial Team.

MTV EMA reserves the right to add additional Categories TBA at a later date.
 
Use of any device to automate a vote is prohibited, including, but not limited to, software-generated, robotic, programmed, script, macro or other automated votes. MTV EMA reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify any vote it suspects or finds: (a) to have used a software-generated, robotic, programmed, script, macro or other automated online or text message vote; (b) to have tampered with the voting process; (c) to be acting in violation of these How Voting Works For The 2017 MTV EMA rules; or (d) to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.
 
The total number of votes submitted during the Voting Period for the "Nominees" in each of the eligible categories will be tabulated by MTV EMA and the "Nominee" with the most votes in its applicable category, as determined by MTV EMA, will be declared the winner of such category. If, for any reason, this voting process is interrupted for any reason, is found to have been tampered with in any way, or for any other reason that MTV EMA believes in its sole discretion to be reasonably necessary, MTV EMA reserves the right to select the winners at its discretion and may take into consideration the number of votes received by a Nominee up until the time of the interruption or cancelation of the voting process.

By participating in this voting process, you agree to be bound by these How Voting Works For The 2017 MTV EMA rules. Failure to comply with these rules may result in a voter's disqualification solely at the discretion of Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to modify these How Voting Works For The 2017 MTV EMA rules at any time in its sole discretion.

All interpretations of these How Voting Works For The 2017 MTV EMA rules and the decisions of Sponsor relating to this voting process are final.
