Since its inception in 1994, the MTV EMA has established a reputation as one of the world's premier music award shows. The 2014 MTV EMA, held in Glasgow, Scotland, was the most widely distributed show in MTV EMA history – airing in more than 160 countries and territories, including a debut on Channel 5 in the UK (last year's host market) and a special U.S. broadcast featuring a live pre-show in Miami.

More than 2.3 million viewers in the UK tuned in to Channel 5 and MTV and with ratings up 17% internationally on the previous year; the MTV EMA continues to break records.

The 2014 MTV EMA also delivered unprecedented social engagement across all of the EMA platforms. #EMA2014 trended #1 worldwide and the MTV EMAs ranked as the #1 most social US show of the week, with 13.6 million tweets the evening it aired, representing a whopping 656 percent increase vs. 2013.  Overall, the 2014 MTV EMA generated a record-breaking level of social conversation with 389 million mentions across platforms (including hashtag votes for international categories), which is up 572 percent vs. 2013.  The biggest driver was the newly introduced social vote, #emabiggestfans.
